The Mirror Therapy
The only real alternative to self criticism is knowing the truth
about who you are. If you have a deep belief that you are
worthless, you must discover where that belief came from and
why you believe it is true.
Survivors of emotional abuse or neglect often do not develop
a clear and undistorted image of themselves. By keeping a
Mirror Journal, creating a word self-portrait, and completing
various other activities, survivors can gain a clearer image of
themselves—their likes and dislikes, and their values, goals,
and dreams.
The Mirror Therapy process will also help you to understand the
concept of the judge (or superego or inner critic) and will teach you
how to overcome its negative influence in your life as well as selfsoothing techniques and how to have compassion for yourself.
