Bullying

Bullying can occur almost anywhere during childhood, including at home, school, church, and sports activities. Often, it takes place on school buses or when youngsters are walking home. In recent years, bullying has taken on new dimensions and ferocity through cell phones and social media. A few hateful words spread on the Internet can humiliate a child to the point of suicide.

Well-meaning adults often turn a blind eye on bullying because thinking about it triggers their own emotional suffering and helplessness as bullied children. Instead of dismissing bullying as normal or inevitable, we owe it to ourselves and any victims we know to reexamine our thinking, consistent with the three steps to emotional freedom in Part 2. Then, we can rationally decide how best to protect our loved ones from outsiders or each other.
